What size server?
FormerMember
I am looking at replacing our current system with Solarwinds Orion. We currently monitor over 560,000+ elements.
I am running a test with Orion 7.7 SLX on a Compaq DL360 server dual 2.8GHz CPU with 2.5G memory and dual 36GB 10K SCSI 320 drives. I am running MS SQL standard edition on the server. The database has grown to 19GB in the last 60 days with the actual backup database size of 10.5GB.
I am monitoring about 3700 elements/6300 polers at 90 second polls with 5 minute stats gets. I have upped the poll rate on the one interface to 50 per second. The problem is now that when I run some reports they fail or take to long to run.
I know in the ORION manual is specifies the size of the server. If we go into production on ORION I plan to run ORION SLX on one server, SQL on another server, WEB GUI on a third server, plus extra polling engines. This setup would be duplicated many times for our various facilities across the country.
My question is what size servers (number CPU, Memory, speed CPU), etc are other people running for extremely large scale setups.
Do the Solarwinds support people on this forum have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Steve
