Using APM with multiple JVMs on 1 physical server (IBM Websphere)

Hello All,

 I'm new to the forum and to Solarwinds in general. We have multiple profiles (JVMs) of IBM Websphere Application Server stand-alone instances running on one physical server. How can I set up APM to show the JVM activity of each profile separately?

At the moment we followed the set up using the APM Java Application Server Template document which included adding the following generic jvm parameter to each of the JVMs via the admin consoles.

-Dcom.sun.management.snmp.port=1161 -Dcom.sun.management.snmp.interface=0.0.0.0

But two JVMs sending information to the same port might be resulting in showing just one profile or a combination of the profiles. I'm not certain if just changing one of the profiles to use a different port other than 1161 is sufficient and I suspect additional modifications would be needed, but since I'm just learning to use Solarwinds I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction (searching so far hasn't produced much insight). We are using APM 4.0.2.

If you're running multiple instances of a java application server on the same host you'll need to run the SNMP daemon and/or JMX listener on separate ports. Once you've on this you can assign the application template to the node multiple times designating the respective port used for each of the component monitor. 

Alternatively, if it's easier you could use JMX and build your own template using the "Find Processes, Service, and Performance Counters" wizard under APM settings. From there simply select your node, provide your JMX information, to create an application template that will monitor the properties you selected through the wizard.
