Variable or custom SQL query to populate an application template threshold.

I added an additional Performance Counter Monitor component to the stock “Windows Server 2003-20012 Services and Counters” Application template to poll the Processor Queue Length to help identify CPU performance problems. However, I want to automatically set the Statistic Threshold equal to the number of CPU Cores * 1 for the warning threshold and CPU Cores * 4 for the Critical threshold. Is it possible to pull the number of cores out of the Orion database, multiply by X, and auto populate this field using a custom SQL query or perhaps a built-in ${variable}?

This cannot be done via a macro, though could in theory be done in the database via a custom SQL query. I would however recommend against that option since the potential risk of doing irreparable damage to the database is fairly high if you're not absolutely sure what fields are being updated based on the join statements. Again, not impossible but also not for the faint of heart either.

Maybe a powershell script that queries the Q length and the processor count, and computes a ratio? You can set thresholds on this ratio. A Script Monitor can have upto 10 outputs - so, you can potentially capture and trend the Q length, core count and the ratio.
