Monitoring an ESX VMware server

I am currently monitoring an ESX cluster and seem to be having a small issue. The ESX servers do not show up as an ESX (VMWare) Server and each guest VM is showing up as a physical Server not a VM. When I run any VMware report it comes up blank. I have read the documentation but can not find out how to enable this. Is there some setting that I need to change.

Do you have snmp access to the ESX server? If so Solarwinds should detect it as such, and then mark all the VM's as virtual hosts.

Yes, I have SNMP access and currently can monitor the interfaces, drive space ...It just will not appear as a VMWare server. I also have SNMP access to the VMs.

The Version is 4.0.0 build 164009.

OK, makes sense now. Our support for ESX 4.0 is not working right now. There are multiple threads on this topic, but the net net is with ESX 4.0 VMWare is no longer populating their MIB's which is what we used to display ESX stats. We are working on this, but this is not a major change as it means we now have to use their API to get ESX data.
