Disk Failures, Fan Failures, PSU Failures

Hi

I would like to monitor our servers hardware, is this possible with orion?

We would like to be notified when there is a disk failure, or a power supply dies etc?

We have Dell and HP hardware. Any help will be great

These are just a few. There are many for the array controller but I suggest you use google or someone else can chime in if they know the OIDs off the top of their head.

OK Great, thanks heaps for all the info.. I gave it a try on our poweredge 2850 and was not able to read OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10892.1.200.10.1.9.1 .. I ran a MIB browse on it and can only locate 1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10893.....

Do I need to be running any dell agents to query the 10892 mibs? As the 10892 appears to list everything that I would like to monitor

Yes. I did forget to mention that Dell OpenManage must be installed on the server for this information to be available via SNMP. You will also need the appropriate HP equivalent on your HP servers for similar information to be accessible via SNMP.

You can use these for global drive array status depending on whether you're using OpenManage Array Manager or OpenManage Server Administrator for your storage management...

newbie to this stuff. I am running HP servers. What app do I need on the HP servers in order to send this info to Orion? Everything I have setup for Orion is working great except for hardware monitoring.

I'm not actually trying to figure out what this specific alert means, but instead have these snmp traps come to my email in plain english instead of looking like something from the Matrix, LOL!

I want to receive emails with plain english just as you wrote below.

I think the only way to get "plain English" verbiage in your trap email is to create an alert for each trap type and key in the verbiage that you want in the message. I don't know of any macros for MIB description Not to say there isn't one, but I don't know of any. If anyone knows of a MIB description macro that would work for SNMP traps, please chime in.

how can I tell what each trap means in trap viewer? I looked through the administrator guide but found nothing. This is rather confusing to me, sorry guys..

You will have to consult with the documentation that was provided by your server provider. In this case HP. I'm sure they provide documentation online which describes the trap definitions. In fact that is where I found the definition for the trap you provided previously.
