SolarWinds Agent Deployment

Hi,

So we deploy the SolarWinds Agent from SCCM.

We follow the documentation below for that...

Mass deploy an agent on Windows using MST files and a Group Policy

However, it appears the discovery plugins are not installed when deployed by this method so when we go into the Windows node and click "List Resources" Orion needs to push the discovery plugins to the node.

Without the discovery plugin the Last Boot value is NULL so any alerts querying that value won't work until we manually deploy the discovery plugin to each node.

Called SolarWinds support and they told me to just deploy the agent from Orion but our deployment and compliancy tool is SCCM. Creating a service account with local admin rights on all servers is not something we want to do anyway.

Why can't we include the discovery plugins with the agent?

Now to properly manage all of our nodes we need to go into each one, click list resources and wait for it to deploy the plugin.The problem is that we have to do it on hundred of nodes.

ronmanp​ unfortunately when the agent is deployed via a third party tool the behavior is as expected to what you're experiencing. The agent checks into SolarWinds and plugins get installed as needed. One method you could do is run a network discovery and at the agent part of the discovery, select check all agents.

This should install the discovery plugin AND give you the ability to also do an import of the node's resources without having to individually hit "List Resources" on all of them.

Please note that this Check is polling engine specific so if you have agents on multiple polling engines then you'll have to make a discovery for each polling engine with this checkbox checked.
