Log forwarder for Windows installation failure on 64-bit 2008 Server

Trying to install the Log Forwarder for Windows on a 64-bit Windows 2008 server.. this is version 1.1.5, supposedly compatible now. Installation fails silently. The following messages appear in the application event log. Any ideas how to resolve this?

- Activation context generation failed for "C:\Users\admddr\AppData\Local\Temp\2\MSIFB95.tmp". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="9.0.21022.8" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

- Product: SolarWinds Log Forwarder for Windows -- Installation failed.

- Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: SolarWinds Log Forwarder for Windows. Product Version: 1.1.5. Product Language: 1033. Installation success or error status: 1603.

Please download and install from the link above, and then re-run the Log Forwarder for Windows installer.

Thank you, installing the package from Microsoft's site did the trick!

Ok. Next stage question.

System in question is a Windows Server 2008 R2 Core.

The installer seems to work fine and also deploys the requisite C++ redistribution. However, right at the end things fail. The service will not start.

This is almost guaranteed to be of no help to the original posting person, but those doing web searches might come across this and find it of us. To get Solarwinds Log Forwarder for Windows 1.19 installed on my server core environment the *32 bit* support for the .Net 2 framework was required (3 required 2 to be setup so I felt no need to go further). To see if yours is enabled you can do the following from the CLI:

oclist | find "NetFx2-ServerCore-WOW64"

If it shows "Not Installed" then you can run the following to enable it:

Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx2-ServerCore-WOW64
