Hi all.
I'm having a problem with alerts. alerts can be triggered when there's an event., but in the "All active alerts" window I don't see anything, its blank. in the Home window under all active alerts, it says: An error has occurred.
Thanks
Good Morning,
Sounds like you might need to add an additional Action to your trigger actions.
Edit your alert >select Trigger Actions > Add Action > select 'Log the Alert to the Netperfmon EventLog'
if you can share a screenshot of the 'An error has occurred' should give perspective
cheers,
NetPerfMon is already added for all alert trigger actions. (see attached screenshots). active alerts used to be shown in the all active alerts window as normal. its only recently that I'm seeing this kind of issue. I don't know why this is happening now, or what caused it to stop working as the error is not that detailed.
can i ask what versions are you on? and have you upgraded recently?
well the alerts are now visible. I don't know what was the problem, it wasn't a browser problem though.
Nice one.
i was checking a way to check the logs with Alert ID just like SAM app debug mode but i cant seem to find this this is a question ill ask separably.
also here is a useful thread on the issue you experienced
An error has occurred.
it looks like its bug with versions
cheers
Hi, I facing the same problem with alerts. alerts condition is in event details but in the "All active alerts" window have blank screen in the Home window under all active alerts is also blank.
Please any one have clue on this issue.
Best Regards,
I am experiencing the same problem... my active alerts window is empty and i'm not getting any alerts via email.
I am running Orion Platform 2016.1.5300, WPM 2.2.1, IPAM 4.3.1, DPA 10.0.1, QoE 2.1.0, IVIM 2.1.2, SAM 6.2.4
well.., I had this issue last time but I ddint manage to resolve it, the alerts just started showing after few moments. I still run into this issue occasionally though
Thanks, I've tried running the reconfiguration and that doesn't make any difference.
Hi dennis.shiburi@alteram.co.za and acmtix,
Can you login to your Orion server and open Database Manager to access your database?
From the list of tables, please open WebUserSettings table and find your AccountID.
Kindly confirm if you have SettingName like ActiveAlerts*, just like the sample below:
No I have no results specified in that table.
I ran configuration wizard but have not tried a reboot. Will try that now and let you know what happens.
Rebooted both my polling servers and this had no effect on the alerts, they are still not present.
Hi Acmtix,
Do you have DPA installed on the Same box as SAM/ NPM/ Etc?
Shane
Yes I do at the moment.
What version of DPA are you running?
- Log into the server > Control Panel > Programs & Features and over to the right there should be a version number?
version 10.1.313.0
An issue prevents integration between DPA and Orion 2016.1 from being installed on the same computer. A new system identifier must be generated for the DPA integration service.
- Are you under maintenance? Please create a ticket and give me the ticket number and I will work on this with you.
This is a known issue. It occurs when DPA is installed on the same server as Orion 2016 ... We have a work around.

1007978 is my case number. Thanks Shane.
DPA is working perfectly, though, its the alerts that are not.
Yup, I'm 99% sure this is your issue. I had same issue yesterday. The integration breaks alerting in the way you have screenshots above.
If the DPA Integration Module is affecting alerting in NPM, can we please have this removed from the standard NPM/SAM installer packages? We aren't licensed for DPA, so it makes no sense that we should have to go and uninstall the integration module to get our alerting working as it was prior to the upgrade.
Sorry this should be directed to Shane Horgan and/or SW support.
Well here is a direct reply from SolarWinds support when I asked the same question:
"
DPA is integrated into SAM. I wouldn't uninstall DPA as it could effect the performance of SAM, for example:
Integrating SolarWinds DPA with SolarWinds SAM provides specific features
only available when the two are integrated:
I hope I have answered your questions and put you at ease regarding DPA, As I have mentioned there are more Pro's than Con's regarding keeping or removing DPA and also its no load on your environment and no additional cost either.
Hi Prawj,
It was just an issue which affected some customers once upgrading to NPM 12 (Orion Core 2016.x). We have a fix for in in place Fix Orion integration with DPA if installed on the same computer - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support & had been address in the latest versions of each product. I'd recommend you follow the steps in the above article download the latest DPA & Hotfixes for NPM / Core
Thanks for the reply Shane.
The scenario was, we had upgraded to NPM 12, and some (but not all) of our alerting was not working. We aren't licensed for DPA, so DPA isn't installed, however the DPA Integration Module was installed by the upgrade process.
I just uninstalled the DPA Integration Module and it looks like our alerting is back to normal.
No problem.
I agree with you, I will pass the feedback to the relevant teams and hopefully we won't face such issues again. If you ever do run into any issues like the above best place to get an answer is the Success Center & if there is no answer there or your unsure the post will help you please open a support ticket with us.
Is anyone got the answer on this issue, i am also facing the issue and we are not using DPA module
