Hi,
We currently use NPM to monitor a Dell Poweredge 6224P. This is our core switch at our data center, which performs routing for 15 Vlans. Our main uplink to the rest of the WAN is a 600MB fiber circuit going to a port on this switch. All of the traffic from our our remote sites feeds through this 600MB pipe. Up until recently data and voice performance was really well. About 2 months ago we started suffering serious voice degradation. The company that manages our phones traced packets and found 2 issues, bottle necking which we corrected and dropped packets. NPm shows me sometimes over 600,000 discarded packets on our core switch and I have no idea how to troubleshoot this our or why is started happening all of a sudden. To be honest, I hadn't looked at NPM for a while so I don't know how many discarded packets were being reported before this started. I have no idea what is causing the dropped packets or how to view the packets being dropped. I am starting to think that the switch is no longer capable of handling the traffic. Oh, Dell replaced the switch 2 weeks ago and the patch cable has also been replaced. Any thoughts?
I hope this post made sense.
Thanks,
Rick
