Dealing with power issues.

Hi all,

I currently work for a natural resource company, and we have a huge issue with the power being turned off to certain switches.

Is there a way I can create a custom alert to specific alert (or not to alert, becuase it'll be back on in 10 minutes) to hard power related issues.

I am in the process of automatically creating tickets via email alerts, and this would take a big chunk out of tickets created.

Do these switches have any kind of UPS? 

From the switch itself there is no way to distinguish between hard power failures and the device just not being able to answer a ping due to network or config problems, but via a SNMP enabled UPS or some other kind of environmental monitor you can monitor incoming line power and if the UPS switches to battery mode it can send an SNMP trap that you can use to trigger your notification or via a polled UNDP. 

You could do a complex condition, or if it was me I would set up a custom property indicating if the system is on UPS power (use a custom UNDP and an alert action to set the CP) and then set up the node down alert to include that UPS power info.

These are features that many people aren't familiar with in NPM so let me know if you need further clarification on any of that.
