HTTP Monitor Through a Proxy

I have several websites that are currently being monitored with SCOM that I need to move over to Solarwinds. We want to make sure that internal users and external users can reach the website. To accomplish this, I was given the recommendation to monitor the sites through one of our internal nodes and through one of our DMZ nodes. I currently have HTTP monitors for these sites assigned to one internal node and one DMZ node, but Solarwinds is still initiating the session to the website correct? Would I need to make sure these nodes are configured as proxies to accomplish this?

Yes, in both scenarios the connection is being initiated from the SAM server. If you have an Additional Poller in the DMZ then the connection could be initiated from that additional poller instead. Another option is as you describe above, leveraging a proxy server in the DMZ and configuring the SAM component monitor to utilize this proxy.
