Monitoring Nokia IP 1260 firewalls
Network_Guru
I have been monitoring Nokia IP 650 firewall for several months now without any problems.
We recently upgraded to Nokia 1260 Firewall appliances. The CPU utilization is now pinned at %100 and peaks down now. It's almost as if Orion is using the MIB for %idle now, rather
that %utilized. MRTG shows the correct utilization which looks like an inverse graph from
what Orion shows.
Has anyone else used Orion to monitor these specific types of appliances?

I am facing a similar problem with Nokia firewall appliances except with the memory utilization. Were you able to find a resolution?

I have Orion monitoring a Nokia 1260 - and the graph counters are a lot more realistic now than on the previous versions. On the Nokia IP530 I used to get mad utilization graphs. I sent the MIB for the Nokia F/Ws to Solarwinds support and they updated the MIB in the latest MIB download.
Perhaps all you need to do is get that latest MIB download. Give it a try and see.
Another thing, perhaps Netwrok_Guru can input on this. I used to see high memory graphs, and think this may be related to the way the OS on the firewalls reserve memory - so I thought this may be why the graphs show shuch a huge chunk taken. You know anything about that NG?
Thanks, Orbit17

I had stopped monitoring the CPU utilization for 6 weeks or so.
I upgraded Orion from 7.0 to 7.0.5 during this time period, as well as installing the
March 2004 MIB updates. The CPU stats have been fine since then.
I did log a ticket with Solarwinds support on this issue before I did the upgrading/MIB
patching. Here is the response:
Thank you for contacting SolarWinds. We have seen Nokia firewall devices which do not fully support the Host-Resource-MIB. Does this device support 64 bit counters? I recommend using the SNMP MIB Browser tool, available with the Engineer's Edition Toolset, to view the hrProcessorTable for the device in question. This table can be located with the following OID.
OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.25.3.3
Does this appear to be a valid value? Please let us know how we can assist you further.
I did not check the OID, as I had just got it working when I received this reply.
As for the memory, I have not had any issues with this (we have 1Gb installed - running at
%40-50).
