Hi,
I am wanting to set up an HP Systems Insight Manager to forward the snmp traps to Orion APM. Anyone is doing this? What needs to be done on both ends? Anything I should watch for etc......
We are also trying to figure this one out. We have HP SIM Agents and need the Hardware SNMP Traps. How do we know if the HP SIM MIB's are imported?
This is actually very common.
Once HP's System Insight Manager Agent is installed on the server the only thing you need to do is define a trap destination in the Windows SNMP service to point to your Orion APM server.
Configuring the SNMP trap destination on Windows 2003/2008
1. Select Start→Settings→Control Panel→Network→Services→SNMP Service.
The SNMP Service Properties dialog box appears.
2. Click Traps.
3. Enter a community name, such as "public".
4. Click Add to list.
5. At the bottom of the dialog box, click Add.
The SNMP Service Configuration dialog box appears.
6. Enter the host name or IP address of the Orion APM server, and then click Add.
The SNMP trap destination is added.
7. Click OK to save the changes and close the dialog box.
If already own Orion NPM, or the Engineers Toolset you can use the MIB browser included with them to browse the MIB database. If you don't own either I would recommend downloading and evaluating them since they're absolutely fantastic!
I can confidently say we already have the HP SIM MIBs in our MIB database. However, if your MIB database is out of date you can always download the latest MIB database from your customer portal.
In the unlikely event you find a MIB that doesn't already exist in our MIB database, you can submit the MIB’s via email to mibs@solarwinds.com, where they'll be compiled with other customer submissions made throughout the week, and made available for download every Friday from your customer portal. It’s worth noting however that MIBs are not required, though they do make creating Universal Device Pollers in NPM, and understanding SNMP traps easier.
