List of Application Monitor Templates (SAM)

Good afternoon,

I'm looking for a simple list of the included Application Monitor Templates in SAM. I know that if you go into SAM you can browse the list, and assign them to you servers, but a PDF or other document that lists the default, included templates would be great. I tried to select all and export, but no luck.

I need to share the list of available templates with our server engineers (who don't directly use SAM), so they can let me know what templates to use with their servers. Kind of like a check list of what they want monitored for their servers. PDF, DOC, etc would all be fine.

Does anyone have a list like this, or know where I can download a copy?

Please note that the PDF referenced in the 2015 reply is no longer being maintained. A list of SAM templates is available in SAM online help and also the SAM Template Guide.

If you want to generate an up-to-the-minute list of template names, you can use the API:

SELECT ApplicationTemplateID, Name, IsMockTemplate, Created, LastModified, ViewID, HasImportedView, ViewXml, CustomApplicationType, UniqueId FROM Orion.APM.ApplicationTemplate

Doesn't have descriptions, but if I can find a table that has the descriptions, I can add that to the query....

Does the SW DB also contain the Licensed Component count for each template? If so where? It doesn't look to be in the APM_ApplicationTemplate table having fired up SWQL Studio

I'm wondering if it's dynamically calculated from the number of Component Templates assigned to the Application Template ID...

I'd like to have a list of all the templates for a sizing exercise to count up the total number of monitors needed based on the X of Template A, Y of Template B and so on.

Between Google, Thwack and distant memories of Access/SQL development, I've managed to come up with the SWQL to count the list of Component Templates assigned to each Application Template. The results match what is shown in the SAM Template management screen, bar the AppInsight counts (which are actually way higher than the 50 licenses they consume)
