Disable Hardware Health Monitoring

Upgraded finally to SAM 5.0.1 yesterday from APM 4.2.2 and now I have the hardware health monitoring feature enabled. The problem is I have about 50 ESX servers that aren't configured to provide CIM data and I really need (for now) a way to disable this feature. I can't find anywhere to do this from the gui but I am comfortable doing this via a SQL query if someone can point me in the right direction.

HI Mike,

there is no way to disable the ESX Hardware polling from UI. But you can use SQL query. You will need to update in table APM_HardwareInfo column IsDisabled. You will need to use NodeId for where clause. NodeId can be found in table Nodes using IP address of the server for which you wish disable the polling.

This procedure will stop the polling and also should hide the Hardware Health resources on Node Detail page. However you could encounter some side effect's. You could be able to still see the status of the Hardware on some places. Especially in the case that the polling fails or the hardware in in unknown state.

Thanks. I have disabled it for all nodes. While I do appreciate the new feature it does irk me that additional polling capabilities are enabled by default leaving the user no ability to turn off or on without DB access.

Well I went through the exercise of setting all nodes to isDisabled. However it seems to automatically turn itself back on. About 10 minutes ago I set all nodes to disabled and I just checked and about 10 of them are back on. How can I permanently disable this feature.

as I explained I have done that. In fact I did it for all nodes however it keeps turning itself back on for a handful of ESX hosts.

There is a chance that polling job result is delivered before change of IsDisabled is detected (it should be checked every 30 sec) and processing of that job result can overwrite IsDisabled back to false... Can you try updating of IsDisabled repeatedly to hit "the right moment"?

Beside this, it is probable that IsDisabled attribute has no effect on jobs for ESX hosts polled through vCenter and will be always reset to false when processing results from polling...

Hardware health monitoring cannot be disabled for VMWare ESX hosts without also disabling "Poll for VMWare". Hardware health is just another metric we collect as part of the VMWare monitoring.

Thanks for the clarification....the reason we were looking to disable is we get a memory in warning (with no further details) however when the team checks the server itself all memory sticks pass their tests so we don't know why the warning is triggered.
