APM 2.0 WMI performance counters and Win server 2008

I've recently opened a support ticket (case # 65898) regarding a bug with the new APM. It appears that when I add the application templates (iis 7.0 template for example) and the target node is a Windows Server 2008 machine, I get "unexpected error occured. Invalid class". I am also seeing issues when integrating WMI performance counters from server 2008.

Is there an estimate of when this bug will be resolved in APM 2.0?

I've read that article through and through and tried all the suggested steps. The last update from SW support on my ticket is that it is acknowledged as a bug with APM and a fix is in your development queue.

I am just posting here to gauge how many others are experiencing the same issue and if there is any known fix for this yet.

While I can't speak for your specific ticket, the WMI performance counters in Orion APM have been tested successfully with Windows Server 2008.

Generally, the "invalid class" error means the WMI classes Orion APM is trying to query do not exist on that node, and this is not necessarily a bug. There are so many optional Windows server components and application settings that a few "invalid class" messages usually indicate that the optional functions are just not available or configured on the node.

For example, it's common to see a handful of "invalid class" messages in the Orion APM Exchange Server template, because the template is comprehensive and attempts to monitor WMI performance counters that only exist for Exchange Servers in very specific roles. If your Exchange Server does not serve that role, the WMI classes for the optional component may not exist on the server, and the component monitors report "invalid class".

The common practice is to identify and then remove any component monitors from the application monitor that do not apply to the node being monitored. If at a later time you enable those options, you can then add those component monitors back.

This said, if the components are ALL reporting "invalid class", that's fairly unusual and may indicate a system-wide problem with the WMI performance counters.

Or, if you are certain the components reporting "invalid class" apply to your node, you absolutely should investigate this further because there is a good chance something on the node is misconfigured. To check if APM is correctly reporting "invalid class"

1. In Orion APM, edit the application that contains the component monitor reporting "invalid class"

2. Expand that component monitor.

3. Inspect the contents of the WQL Query field, and make note of the string following "FROM". That is the class name. For example, "Win32_PerfFormattedData_InetInfo_InternetInformationServicesGlobal".

4. Follow the instructions given by Microsoft on how to verify whether the class exists on the node.
