CPU utilization of ESX 3.0.2 showing 100%

Question

Hi,

We have a ESX 3.0.2 box which has 4 CPU. But I am seeing that NPM is just considering 1st CPU values eventhough ESXTOP is giving used total of 30%. We have tried through SNMP and poll through VM Ware, but still getting same values. I have also changed the polling method to Netsnmp real on the ESX but values didnt change. Please help me understand how we could pull out the average of 4 CPUs on ESX to get accurate values. I could not even find CPU utilization OID to add in UnDP.

can you verify with UnDP assigned on affected node (in case of need check our NPM Administrator Guide:Creating Universal Device Pollers section) that OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.11.11.0 is returning 0 or 100? This particular OID is measuring percentages of idle CPU time, so it should vary during load.

Let run this UnDP for several hours and do some load on particular node.

Do you use "top" command on node for verification of actual CPU load? Or which tool do you use?

Hi Tomas Pospisil,

We have checked the Poller checker tool and found that N.CPU.SNMP.NetSNMPCPUIdle is the only poller method present with green status. When I am polling that I am getting below response.

Hello Syed H,

Please provide which CPU poller is assigned to node with following SQL statement

SELECT * FROM Pollers WHERE PollerType LIKE '%N.Cpu%' AND NetObjectID = 1 -- use your NodeID instead of 1

In case of SNMP is used for monitoring CPUs (PollerType follows this pattern N.Cpu.Snmp.*) then can be used PollerChecker tool which is placed in %ProgramFiles(x86)%\SolarWinds\Orion\PollerCheckerTool.exe

To check which OID is used for polling then select Node -> Cpu and Detect Pollers button (in top left corner). On detected CPU polers select green one and use right mouse click and Poll Now. It will do regular polling and show you raw result with used OIDs.
