How do I run a command on a Cisco router as an alert action?

Hi all

Today I have an alert setup to monitor a module in a router, this module fails now and then and the alerts sends me a text message. So far so good. What I'd like to do now is to have the alert action trigger a command, or run a command on the router and reboot the module for me.

Any ideas? There is the option to run a VBscript but I'm unsure how to make a script that's smart enough to login, and then run the command.

If you have NCM installed, you could create a scheduled job in NCM, then have the NPM alert trigger an external prgram. Set the external program to be something like this "c:\program files\solarwinds\configuration management\configMgmtjob.exe c:\program files\solarwinds\configuration management\jobs\job-[jobNumber].ConfigMgmtJob"

[jobNumber] would be the job number that NCm assigned to the scheduled job.

In the past, I would create the job, then set it to run at a scheduled time. This will create a Windows scheduled task in Task Manager. You can open the task and copy the command that runs the job from there instead of typing the whole thing out.

After you are done, go back to the NCM scheduled job and delete the schedule. The job will remain in place, but it will not be scheduled to run at specific time. This way, it will only run when it is told to run by your triggered alert.
