In SAM, IIS Applications, what exactly is the HTTP Bindings Monitor? What is it monitoring?

We had some blocking on our database server and the HTTP Bindings Monitor bubble was red for a number of Sites on our web servers (three web servers, SharePoint farm). Everything was green except the HTTP Bindings Monitor. What exactly is being indicated when the bubble is red?

The Bindings Monitor is a synthetic HTTP/S user experience monitor that is dynamically assigned based upon the binding settings (protocol & port) of the IIS website. It essentially makes web requests no differently than a user would using a web browser.

I'm trying to determine how SolarWinds determines that IIS is down.

Can I modify the URL? Without further specification, a site that I want to monitor gives a 404. For example http://ip_address returns a 404, but http://ip_address/whoami.asp returns a 200. I'd like to use the latter to monitor that site.
