Exchange Transport Queue Monitoring

Hi there,

I'm running APM, and I've installed the standard Exchange 2010 templates for monitoring my Hub Transport servers. I know that I can monitor for issues with mail flow (namely messages piling up in queue), but I'm a relative newbie to APM. Essentially, what I want to do is create an alert to let me know if any of those Queue monitors (largest delivery, aggregate delivery, submission length, etc) are out of whack.

Any ideas?

The Advanced Alert Manager does not allow your to alert upon the cumulative aggregate of multiple component monitors. E.G. Queue 1 + Queue 3 > 100. You could probably do this by writing an advanced SQL alert, or by creating a SQL User Experience Monitor against the SAM database to perform the math functions you're looking for.

I figured that was the case, so I'm not really looking for an alert based on combined statistics. I just want to create separate alerts for each of those components, I'm just not sure how they need to be framed.

To be alerted when a threshold has been exceeded simply click "Edit Application" when viewing the application details view, or "Edit Component" when viewing the specific component monitor you want a threshold defined for. Enter the thresholds you'd like defined for warning and critical and save your changes. If these thresholds are ever exceeded then the default out of the box Advanced Alert "Alert me when an application goes into a warning or critical state" will be triggered.
