Trend Micro IMSS 7.1 and WMI

Hi.

First of all - this is NOT a Solarwinds problem at all, but since Trend Micro so far as not been able to help me I turn to the engineers of Thwack for help.

A year ago I found the solution with your help to monitor IMSS 7 with APM.

Now I have changed from IMSS 7.0 on W2K3 32bit to IMSS 7.1 on W2K8R2 64bit. And can't get it to work. Whatever I do all I get from the Win32_PerfRawData_TmImssMTA_IMSS is "Invalid Class".

I have ran wmiadap /f, mofcomp the IMSS mof, registered DLL's. Deleted wbem data. Changed security on dcom. Still same error.

The only thing that works is to use the old MS WMICodeCreator.exe and query the value from the program. But if I run the WQL from the same program it fails. wbemtest fails as well.

I can read all other WMI data from the servers.

I am pretty sure that Trend Micro has done something wrong here. Either with 7.1, W2K8 or 64 bit. If anyone has some advice I would love to try them.

Hello,
have you tried to monitor performance counter using Performance counter monitor? Go to Admin->APM Settings->Find processes, services and performance counters and check if you see required performance counter on target node.

Hi.

Thank yoy for your quick answer, but no - this does not work. That didn't work for IMSS7 either. When I changed all WMI counters to Perfmon Counters with your script all these stopped working and I had to revert to the -old monitors.

PerfMon Counters will not work because the counters don't even show up in PerfMon on the server. I will have to wait for Trend Micro to answer me I guess...

Hi.

The reason why this is not working is that IMSS is an 32bits application, and it is running on a 64bits server. Perfmon and WMI data is in the WOW64 version of PerfMon.

Is there any way Orion can read 32bit counters from a 64 bit server? I hoped this was solved in APM 4, but I am still not able to see the IMSS Performance object on the server using Find Processes using PerfMon or WMI monitors.
