Alerts

Is there a way I can ask for an alert only to be sent if for an action is happening for an extended period of time? For exapmple, I want an alert from my servers if the CPU usage is running at over 80% for over 5 mins. I don't need to know if it happens for just for a few seconds as this is normal for server activity.

I am using orion V7.8 at the minute.

The beta version of the new Alert Engine adds this feature and a few others. If you want to try it, below you will find the link to download the new Alert Engine (beta).

You will want to install the new Alert Engine first. You will then need to run the Configuration Wizard to make all of the changes to the system and database that the Alert Engine requires.

The new Alert Engine is very different than what you have seen so far. There is a separate GUI for managing and configuring the Alerts. The Alerts are designed very similarly to how the Report Writer designs reports. Also please remember that this is still beta and that there may be anomalies with it. We want to hear your feedback, both good and bad, so that we may continue to refine it.

The CPU utilization is based on the statistics polling interval you have set for the node.
If you are polling the node every 5 minutes for statistics (memory, CPU & disk), then it must exceed 80% for 5 minutes before you will receive an alert.

By default, Orion does not show anything more detailed than 5 minute intervals on the web pages it generates, so there's not much point in setting your stats polling less than this.
