Lotus Domino?

We are trying to monitor a Domino server with APM. I'm not concerned as much about the process (*.exe or service) in a running state, as much as I am about the server responding to a client request in a timely manner. Has anyone tried this before?

I don't have any experience with Domino but it seems like you're looking for a User Experience Monitor specifically for Domino. I don't believe one exists. I'm uncertain as to whether any of the current User Experience Monitors will work for you:

DNS User Experience Monitor
ODBC User Experience Monitor
Oracle User Experience Monitor
SQL Server User Experience Monitor

If you were able to do a round-trip email, would that meet your need?

In particular I am looking for intercluster replication to be working. So basically, getting a valid response from the server on a particular port would work. The email end to end would be over complicated for our needs and not all of our Notes servers are running the SMTP service anyway.

Fortunately / unfortunately, my organization utilizes Domino.

Your solution depends on the underlying OS that Domino is installed on. If it is WinTel then you have all of the support of SNMP, Windows services, WMI, etc.

If you are running on the long list of other hardware / software solutions, then you may be limited to snmp, and TCP/IP port monitoring.

Our installation is on a AS400. Thie only monitoing I have operational is snmp for system processes, ethernet, and TCP/IP monitoring for SMTP, HTTP, and HTTPS. We do not allow POP3 or IMAP in standard or secure versions.

Does Domino publish WMI performance counters?

Never mind. Our Dev Manager just told me that the answer is yes. Lotus can be monitored with WMI performance counters. Use the AppBuilder to browse your Domino server and pick the counters that represent what you want to monitor.
