Application Monitoring\APM Comparison Charts

Finally the powers that be have come round to look at some form of Application Monitoring but I've been asked to do a short presentation of the various different flavours of Application monitoring with my recommendations. I've tried searching the net for comparisons and the various different vendors show bits of what there products can do but not everything and I don't want to have to contact them directly yet until we've made a decision. My preference would be for APM hence where I'm posting.

The products I've be asked to look at are Manage Engine, Itheon App Manager, APM, MS SCOM and Alcatal\Lucent Vital Suite. I've got some info on the products but not a great deal.

Did anyone else go through a similar process when they were looking at Application Monitoring?

Can anyone give me any advice\details on the products above?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I went through the exact same type of evaluation process for an NMS which included the Application Monitoring piece.  I am familiar with the problem of having to contact the vendors to get any useful information at all about the product so I completely understand your pain.

After our evaluation we choose SolarWinds NPM and APM as I felt they were the best fit for our company.  So far I have been very happy with the SolarWinds Application Monitoring with APM and the engineers and admins that I support have been very happy with it as well.  One of the things I really liked about it was it's flexibiltiy in that it allows you to basically "model" your applications by deciding what components need to be functioning for your application to be considered functioning.  I also like that it comes with a lot of stuff out-of-the-box as well as the option to both create your own monitors as well as share them with others.

One of the other big advantages of SolarWinds for us was that they have a suite of products that will let us grow into them as we grow.

As far as the other products you mention, out of those the only one I evaluated was Manage Engine.  Manage Engine seemed like a descent product but when I attempted to contact their support it was absolutely awful.  After a bit of research I found that the company is based out of India with a front here in the US.  I personally like to try and keep my business as local as possible and that is one of our companies philosophies as well.
