This is more of a general discussion than any assistance needed BUT it may assist others (like me) on other means of grouping servers/application templates
For us we are noticing an issue with certain Network Atlas maps rendering, we are in a current discussion with Soalrwinds Support (the lovely Kate) regarding this and below is something we have tried to implement from the lovely Kate:
The home page you have designed has a lot of very query-heavy resources. This is why you see the failure to render, it takes a lot of work to generate the Top 10 lists, and then the status of the two groups. You might want to consider removing some resources to get better performance. For instance, the Applications with Problems resource is redundant with the Application Overview chart - if you click on any category in the chart (Critical, Unknown, Warning, etc) it will display a list of all applications in that state. So you may be able to remove one of those two resources.
We used to run WhatsUp Gold prior to getting SAM installed and on WhatsUp we were able to create say 4 groups:
INFRASTRUCTURE, WEB, MAIL, APPLICATION
Each one relating to WEB Servers, MAIL Servers, APPLICATION Servers, INFRASTRUCTURE Server. We could then move any server into those groups they related to and this would also then have each application that was monitored. Therefore if say any Exchange server/application went down the MAIL Servers group would turn RED. We have tried or should I say I have tried to attempt this with SAM and seem unable to do said function.
Therefore is there a way... and also as the title states how do you group your servers within SAM?
I hope some ideas are thrown my way as seems a pain for me to get this done as I require.
Thanks
Neil
