Monitoring HP and Sun Unix servers
ebm007
I am new to Orion tools ... I am evaluating v7, demo version.
1. What version of SNMP does Orion v7 use?
2. I want to monitor Windows, HP-UX, and Solaris servers. Windows seems to be a no-brainer.
But I'm reading (on this forum) that Solaris is a problem. And I see no mention of HP-UX (we run mostly 11.00 and 11.11)
When I try to set up one of these HP-UX hosts using the System Manager, I see its network interfaces, but don't see any CPU/memory/disk volume information.

Orion uses the Host Resources MIB (RFC-1514) to monitor Disk, CPU, and Memory of UNIX and Windows servers.
See the following resources for more information on enabling the Host Resources MIB on True64 Unix from HP.

The bad news is... I don't think HP-UX 11.xx directly supports the Host Resources MIB. The HP UNIX featurs comparison at
h30097.www3.hp.com/.../std_network_details.html
states that RFC-1514 is not supported by HP-UX 11.xx
But, that doesn't mean you cannot make it work. There are a number of third party SNMP agents for HP-UX that support RFC-1514. Here's one that is free and has been known to work well on HP-UX.
