Map Maker will not launch

I am running Orion 8.5.1 and have never used the Map Maker feature on this install. I now have a need to use it and now when I try to launch it I get the following error.

Run Time Error ‘430’:
Class does not support Automation or does not support expected interface

Now, I did find this in the knowledge base and it listed a fix for this error, but that did not work for me.

I tried unregistering and re-registering the dll as described in the the knowledge base but that returned an error as well.

I have tried to do a repair and re-ran the configuration wizard and still get the same error when trying to launch map maker.

Any help or suggestions would be great.

Ok, I got this to work. I checked the versions of the swdiscoveryServices8.dll file in both the Configuration management dir and the common dir and found they were different versions. I copied the 8.1.0.10 version from the common folder to the Configuration Management folder and that did it. The Configuration Management folder had version 8.1.0.9. Now my question is, will this mess anything else up?

Try the steps again. Doing the repair probably override the previous registration.

First, open a Dos prompt and copy/paste this line:

regsvr32 -u "c:\program files\solarwinds\Configuration Management\swdiscoveryServices8.dll"

You should get a pop-up that will say unregister succeeded.

Next, copy/paste this line:

regsvr32 "c:\program files\solarwinds\common\swdiscoveryServices8.dll"

You should get another pop-up saying the registration succeeded

I tried the steps again after the repair and got the same results. When I attempt to do the unregister as you describe, I get the following error:

DllUnregisterServer in c:\program files\solarwinds\Configuration management\swdiscoveryServices9.dll failed.
Return code was: 0x80004005

So, to be clear, the un-register and re-register process is giving me a failure message on both.

this should be Services8- - is that the message after the registration of the Services8.dll?

I'm sorry, yes it is 8. Just a typo.
