custom properties in SAM / APM?

hi there

some time ago, we have a great thread going about adding custom props to APM. it seemed to get buy in from solarwinds, but i have seen nothing about it come out into the product. what happened?

i cannot even seem to pull in the description field into an alert for an application, and definitely not for a application component...

any thoughts?

make shared alerting models for APM near impossible

This is a feature that we'd like to see as well; however, as long as you don't need different custom properties for multiple applications on the same server you should be able to use the Node's Custom Properties. We use AppAdmin, AppEmail, and AppPhone CPs for triage information that gets stuck into the alert email.

It does cause some problems though when you have the Windows Server 2003-2008 template (managed by Windows Admin) and a SQL Template (managed by DBA) on the same server.

we are on the same path, i have the same thing, but the number of diferent apps is now up to30ish, so the node props have go out of hand :-(

i think if we could pull the description through it might help, but it would fall apart when we had diferent information we wanted to stick in for the same app template, but on 2 diferent customers

Both the Notes and Description field can be used as part of an Alert Trigger.

While the Notes and Description fields on APM components can be handy in a pinch, it would be much cleaner to have custom properties. It would be even more awesome if they were the long sought after Pulldown type!

thank sfor the reply, but it is not the trigger condition i am concerned with, it is the contend of the email alert that is triggered...

meaning we can put specific information aout how to deal with an alert on an App when it goes down
