Monitor Shared Drive

I was recently asked to monitor a network (shared) drive that is mapped to 10 of our Windows 2008 R2 Servers. These nodes are currently being monitored/polled via Solarwinds agents.

The issue that I'm running into is the shared drive does not show up on any of these nodes in the available resources. Could this be due to the solarwinds agent not having the correct permissions to view this drive/folder? Is there another more efficient way to monitor a network drive for available space?

You would need to use a combination of SAM Templates to monitor the Folder Size of the server hosting the network share, along with then monitoring the status of the network share directly.

Here are some examples:

Windows File Share Availability - This will monitor that the windows share exists and is reachable.

Windows Network Drive Monitor - Checks the node directly that the drive is mapped (Say z:\)

Also, I think there is an out of box Directory Size Monitor which will alert if the directory gets full up.

Hi David,

It is a great stuff. But i am looking for the utilization of my network drive path. Will it be provide the utilization of my share drive as weel?

Ex. My share path is \\192.X.X.X\public

above path is mapped to any server. I want notification when utilization reach 80% or above.

Just monitor \\192.X.X.X\ and scan that instead

I actually made a Powershell script for this exact thing! Just enter the UAC path as the parameter (\\fileshare.solarwinds.com\reports\)

I think i have powershell script which will check the mapped drive utilization and generate the windows event. The Event ID we can capture in SAM .
