Configuring Alerts without ICMP checks

Hello,

I have had approx one week with the orion APM/NPM system and I have been setting up some basic alerts to ensure some of my servers are accessible.

 

The enivornment that these are in do not all allow ICMP to different vlans. And at least 4 of these machines are in different vlans from the main Orion server. So the "Alert me when node is down" is falsely reporting that these are down when it starts to check them via icmp.

 

Is there a fay to filter that protocol from the node up/down alerts. I still want to know when these servers are accessible but I need to figure out another means of doing that.

You have 2 possible solutions.

 

1. Edit the Node and mark the Node as External:

If you want to add an External node to monitor a hosted application with Orion Application Performance Monitor, check External.

Note: The External status is reserved for nodes hosting applications that are to be monitored with Orion Application Performance Monitor. Orion NPM will not collect or monitor any data about a node itself, if it is marked as External.

 

2. If you want to collect Statistics from the Node, then leave the Node as is and Create a Custom Property, add a Yes/No Node Property of "No-ICMP" and add a check box under the Nodes that do not respond. In Advanced Alert Manager under Trigger Conditions add a Condition for "No-ICMP" and select False. This will automatically filter out the Nodes. Basic Alerts you will need to manually deselect the Nodes in the Monitored Network Object Tab of the Alert.
