Node has 100% Packet Loss on incorrect IP

Good afternoon,

Solarwinds newbie here.

I have a node that is showing as down as the polling IP address is incorrect. The server is up, and responding on a different address.

Solarwinds has the polling IP address as something else, so is showing as down.

If I go to edit node, the polling IP address is greyed out, and I can't edit this manually, select IP address does not show the new IP.

The category further down is 'Node Category: Auto-Detected (Server)'

I've tried a rediscover but that does nothing.

Can someone please point me in the right direction of fixing this node please?

if possible you can just delete the node from:

Settings -> Manage Nodes -> search for the node, check the box and delete it from the menu

Try adding it manually -> Settings -> Manage Nodes -> Add Node

Thanks. I was hoping that it would pick up that the IP changed, but I'm thinking because it is on a different domain to the SW server it could not resolve the host name to update properly and there is no extra DNS suffixes listed.

As long as the device is NOT set to Dynamic IP, it won't ever change any IP addresses.

when you go to the node and click on "edit node" you will see how it is set

So if we move a server to a different sub net, what would be you recommended approach? tick Dynamic IP, Save, see what happens? Or delete the server and re-add.

with the "Dynamic IP" ticked, solarwinds needs to be able to resolve the name to an IP-Address. as you stated you are on a different subnet/network/domain it might not be able to do that.

With this said, I'd go with "delete the node and re add it" or enable Network Discovery and let the node be discovered automatically.

Ok thanks.

I deleted it and waited 24 hours for the discovery to kick in, but nothing happened.

I did see we have discovery set up for all of our domains though. I'll look into it further at some point if I come across any issues, but for now I think I'm good just deleting and re-adding all of the nodes that changed their IP.

are you discovering on an Active Directory basis or based on Subnets/IP-Ranges.

If you are using the first option -> do you scan all OUs or are you selecting specific OUs ?

Selective OU's over a few domains. I'll look back into this if I have any further issues. Thanks for your help.
