Interface bandwidth changes

I noticed recently that when updating the bandwidth statement on some cisco devices that the interface speeds in Orion don't update automatically. Is this so it doesn't over-write the manually configured interface bandwidth settings in NPM or should it update the bandwidth speed when it periodically rediscovers the interfaces.

By default, the re-discovery interval is 30 mins I believe, what behavior are you seeing

Hi bshopp,

the behavior I'm seeing is when the bandwidth statement is altered on an interface of a Cisco device NPM doesn't pickup and make the change to the banwidth in it's databases.

One recent change for us last Thurs saw the bandwidth altered at around 7pm. When I looked at the interface in NPM the next morning at 7am the bandwidth hadn't been updated in the database or graphs. Even after a manual discovery it doesn't update the bandwidth.

Yeah that's what I'm having to do, which is not what I want to have happen. (What happens if someone changes the bandwidth statement again without notifying the NPM admins?). We are monitoring over 6000 interfaces and a lot of them are serial ints.

What's the point in rediscovering interfaces if all the discovered info isn't being updated each time it does it?
