Saved Cisco Config files - save as .cfg files?

Our NCM is grabing config files from our Cisco devices and saves them in the archive as .config files.

Is it possible to have it save them as .cfg instead?

If you are going to change the format,then the file will become unusable.Can you explain why would you like to save them as .cfg file?

For compliance and DR purposes we would like to store Cisco .cfg file backups of the configurations. This would allow us to restore or replace config files on Cisco devices.
