is possible to do authentication with AD orion, if the two are on different networks.

I'm not really clear on your set up here, but i would think as long as your Orion server can talk to your Domain Controller you should be able to set up.

you have to have created bidirectional trust between these two domains. Than you should be able to authenticate the user from the trusted domain in the Orion (trusting) domain. The authentication is always done against the web-server. The Orion AD users only must be allowed to "Logon locally" to the web server machine (if there are some restrictions defined). Simply said - you must be able to login to the Web server machine using the "trusted domain" account.

I thought you could connect to multiple domains (I have not tried though)...
when add user/group, it prompts you for domain admin creds and domain, then returns list.
users log in using <domain>\<username>
AFAIK in case your server is not a member of the domain or the workstation/your domain doesn't have trusted relationship with the domain, you can't browse the domain although you know the credentials.
