Same alert on v7 & v8 alert engines?

Hi all,

We've installed the new v8 alert engine, and like it (a lot) so far. However before they let me finally turn off all the alerts on the old engine, we were running basically the same alert in parallel on both to make sure that the most critical alerts got triggered properly in the new engine. (I am sure they are, but need to demonstrate it to others). When a node went down recently, it triggered an alert which was sent by the old engine, but not the new engine (email alert, FYI.)

So I guess my question is - is there something in the design that will stop an alert being triggered if there is an existing, active alert for that object?
