Hi I am new to APM I have an urgent deploment to be made as per my management need. Can someone help me in this Requirements * I want to monitor whether my service provider DNS is working or not . How can i prob the DNS service of service provider DNS. * How can i check that a particular Web hosting is running or not. Objecive is to check as a client that my web service www.abc.com is running or not . If not i should get an alarm.

Sounds like you'll need to create application monitor template(s) that contain a 1) DNS User Experience Monitor and 2) HTTP Monitor. Using the DNS User Experience Monitor, you can specify a domain to check and expected result from the DNS query. Using the HTTP Monitor, you can specify a URL to monitor and a string that should appear if the site is up/down. Of course, you'd then build alerts based off the results of these monitors.

The next release of APM which is currently in beta will allow you to define a custom DNS query like www.microsoft.com and alert based on an invalid response.

Thanks for the information. i tried following your steps i was able to create an application monitor using http monitor and specified a URL also www.microsoft.com but as a last step i have to assign it to a node..

which node should i apply too . i just want to check if the site is opening or not moreover if i add a node microsoft.com than i can't add it with SNMP . ICMP is not allowed in my compacy for internet traffic i can only check TCP 80 request.

You can assign your Application Monitor Template to any node. If the URL for your HTTP Component does not contain ${IP} then the monitor will behave exactly the same regardless of what node you assign it to.
