Maximum HTTP Request Length Error While Modifying Templates

If I add a lot (eg 400+) servers to an application template, I get the following HTTP error while trying to save the template. I've logged a ticket for this problem in the past but there is no solution except to limit the number of servers or number of monitors for a template. Also you can't simply delete monitors once you cross this size threhold so you have to recreate the template and inmy case once again manually add 1000 nodes.

Does anyone know how estimate this size threshold or found a way to modify the template in the database. At this point it looks like I will only be able to have 2 monitors per template or alternatively duplicate the template which sort of defeats the the point of having templates.

Here's the error, I have seen slight variations in the actual message.

Your error doesn't seem to have anything to do with the number of servers that are associated with an application. And what you're saying about the number of components per template doesn't sound right. We have lots of functioning templates with 12+ monitors.

What was your ticket number? I suspect we've got a case of miscommunication.

Here's Support's reply:

After doing some investigation, this appears to be a limitation of the ASP .Net framework. Try splitting it into two different monitors and see if that works.

From looking at your case, it seems the problem is actually about assigning a template to a larger number of nodes, not about the number of monitors in a template. But, honestly, it's not clear. If you're still having the problem, please open a new case, and we'll work it through.
