Storing TFTP captured configs?

Am I missing something? I have a couple of D-Link switches that will only allow me to download their configs via TFTP? How do I configure the ...Download Config option to try and execute a TFTP? Even if I can get it D/L'd will it automatically dump it into NCM?

I will trial some things tomorrow but wanted to drop the question to see if I could save myself some time.

Yes, if you can access the device with a CLI, you'll need to edit the device template being used for the device and add something like the following (you can reference the Cisco IOS template for an example):

Then, you'll need to edit the device details and set "Transfer Configs Using" to TFTP.

Do the D-Link switches provide a command line to connect and execute the "copy TFTP" command? If so, you should be able to create a simple device template to make this work.

If you need NCM to act as a TFTP client, this isn't possible today.

I have a similar request in the ability to import a tftp job into NCM so that it can be viewed/compared via the NCM website.

One I am working on right now is Extreme XOS configuration is only truly backup up if you tftp it from the switch. If I enter the tftp command line into the device template for "running" config..will that import the tftp file into NCM or does that not work? Also on XOS, policy files are stored on the switch and also can only be backed up via a tftp process. I wrote a custom script to back them up onto the NCM server via tftp but obviously I would like these stored in the NCM database and show up on the node page as well as an additional config other than running or startup. Is this possible?

Perfect -- that was the key I was missing! I will give it a whirl today and post back to let you know if I succeed.

(BTW: It is the device details portion I was missing -- managed to figure out the TFTP command myself. Is that in the documentation somewhere? If so, I must have missed it.)

Using "Transfer Configs Using" TFTP works but with an issue on Extreme XOS. Extreme XOS stores its code in .xml format. When I try and view the config on the web page it displays a few lines with weird numbers on it instead of a config. When I view via NCM it displays in the correct format. I would love to work with you to get this working for Extreme XOS and update the templates. I feel those out there backing up their Extreme XOS switches with "sh conf" are going to be disappointed when their switch dies and try to recover. :-)

Also the second part to my question was the ability to save more configs on a device than just Startup and Running. There are other files on Extreme XOS for example that I would like to backup and store in NCM....is this possible?
