I get this error code. This would be for switches with CAT O/S and Firewalls

Are you sure of the template being used? There is a couple of different templates depending on if you use IOS, CatOS or a hybrid.

you should verify your login credentials.

In NCM application, Node List, double-click on the device you are interested in.
First maybe check whether you can reach the device at all: in top right corner, click Actions -> Ping Node.
If the node is reachable, then click Actions -> Validate Login Information. If you are not able to log in, you can update the credentials in the Login Information section.
