Average Packet size chart
joesim
Can Solarwinds track and chart the average packet size a device is RX/TX?
I see under interface details a "Average Packet Size" but there is no link for it and I cannot find a trending chart for it.

Hi Joe,
I don't think so.
Where is it that you found "Average Packet Size"?
There are a whole host of other interface specific metrics and charts, but Average Packet Size is not one that I can find.
Be fantastic.

I've created a Custom Report with Report Writer that show the average Tx & Rx packet size on our router Async interfaces, however this is not a historical report. I believe it will only show the packet size over the past polling period - 5 minutes in my case.
You should see this option in Report Writer by selecting a Current Interface Status report.

Hi NG,
It seems odd that they would have this info available in report writer but not on the web interface. I found what you were describing for interfaces in RW but was unable to find any similar option for interfaces on the Orion web front end.
Curious.
Be fantastic.

Yes it is strange Isaac,
I just created another report (daily) for packet size & max util. time, to see if I could grab some historical data, but no luck.
My guess is they collect this data for 24 hours & clean it out everytime the DB maintenance runs. You could verify this by finding the table in the DB where this info is stored & then check/search the DB maintenance logs for mention of this table to see what's going on.
If so, it might be possible to change the DB maintenance script so this data is kept historically, the same as the interface utilization & errors?
-=Cheers=-
