Variable for Message Line

Good afternoon,

We've installed the "Users Currently Locked Out" app monitor that uses the Windows Script Monitor. We have modified the script to show us the user account that is currently locked out. This info appears in the "Message" line, under "Compenent Details". I would like to include that info in the email alert, but cannot figure out the variable for the "Message" line.

Has anyone done this or anything similar?

Ok, so after having another Systems Engineer and a couple of SQL gurus that I work with look at the database and the SQL statement, they came up with a SQL statement that is getting us the results that we want. I've pasted it below:

${SQL: SELECT PortEvi.ErrorMessage FROM APM_PortEvidence PortEvi JOIN APM_CurrentComponentStatus ccs on ccs.ComponentStatusID = PortEvi.ComponentStatusID WHERE ccs.ComponentID = '5240'} on server ${NodeName}

Hi, Dave.

Convert your alert to a APM-Component alert type so that you can use the ${StatusOrErrorDescription} variable to insert the component status string into your alert email.

This variable isn't available with APM-Application type.

That variable actually did not return the "Message" line from the Component Details section in the APM Web Console. That gave me the "Component Status Details" line. I've uploaded a screenshot of what I'm referring to. I've highlighted the line that I'm interested in receiving in the email alert.

I've tried this two different ways, getting two different results. Unfortunately neither of them are the desired result. The first method I tried was copying and pasting the SQL statement into message body. When I do that, it basically echoes itself when I test the alert. The second method I attempted was the "build" the SQL variable by checking the "Define SQL Variable" box when you attempt to insert a variable in Advanced Alert Manager. When I test fire the alert using that method, I get the error message below:

MACRO SQL ERROR - Incorrect syntax near 'ERROR'.

Unclosed quotation mark after the character string ' @';.

Well, it did return the message, but it's combined with the status string. "Component is up. No Users are locked out."

There's no built in variable that returns only the message string. The ${StatusOrErrorDescription} always combines the message string with the component status/error.

I asked dev, and someone suggested this SQL statement as a workaround for you if the message text has to appear alone. He said it should provide the error message text you're looking for:

{$SQL: select pe.ErrorMessage from APM_ProcessEvidence pe join APM_CurrentComponentStatus ccs on ccs.ComponentStatusID = pe.ComponentStatusID and ccs.ComponentID = ${ComponentID} }

I've tried this a few different ways and cannot get the SQL statement you suggested as a workaround will still not return the correct info. When I paste the statement into the body of the message I get exactly what you see below when I test the alert:

{$SQL: select pe.ErrorMessage from APM_ProcessEvidence pe join APM_CurrentComponentStatus ccs on ccs.ComponentStatusID = pe.ComponentStatusID and ccs.ComponentID = 954 }

When I try to build the variable inside of the "insert variable" box, I get the message below when I test it:

${SQL:Select pe.ErrorMessage from APM_ProcessEvidence pe join APM_CurrentComponentStatus ccs on ccs.ComponentStatusID = pe.ComponentStatusID and ccs.ComponentID = $@ComponentID@ }}

Can you tell me exactly how this is supposed to be done? This is the first time I've tried creating an alert using a SQL variable, so it could be something I'm doing wrong. Have you verified this works on your system?
