AD and exchange integration plus server our of domain

Hello,

Some questions:

1) I have Solarwinds server our of domain, is it a good practice?

2) If so, and I can keep it like that, how can I enable AD integration from Web Console. I tried to do the config from Web Console, and tried to add users, and I cannot be able to authenticate any.

3) I know I need WMI, how I can make it run? I checked server and services is up.

Any guidance to help me start?

This is a very common configuration for many SolarWinds customers and is fully supported.

Follow the steps outlined in the section of the Administrators Guide at the link below for adding a new Windows individual account, or Windows group account. Once you've added your Active Directory users to Orion you can login to the Orion web console using those users Active Directory credentials by using the domain\username or username@domain formats in the user name field.

I tried everythin, I also tested the net use \\dcname\ipc$ and I was able to connect to DC server, however I cannot connect from Web Console.

I checked already services up and running, and still not able to get connected. Any suggestions?

Do I need to put the server in the domain??, Solarwinds server is currently running out of the domain.

My understanding is that the Orion server itself must be a member of the Domain. In a multi-domain environment a trust relationship must exist between the domains before cross domain authentication will work.

The PDF available at the link below describes how Active Directory Authentication works in Orion and may help with troubleshooting.

so, what if I need to run APM and other tools that request domain accounts to get into the apps within those servers?, what if I need to monitor the AD and exchange server? as for what I am understanding is that I won't be able to do so using windows authentication, and might not be able to use WMI either, right?

SAM/APM do not have to be in the same domain as the servers it's monitoring. The only requirement is that the Orion server be in the domain (or have a trust relationship with that domain) you want your users to authenticate against using their Active Directory credentials. This does not impact of effect APM/SAM's ability to poll across domains. In all actually SAM/APM can be in a workgroup or totally different domain than the one it's monitoring. Provided you specify appropriate credentials to monitor the remote host with adequate permissions APM/SAM will be able to monitor that host.
