Machine Type incorrect

Question

I have a very large network with about 15000 interfaces being monitred on over 2000 cisco devices.  I am running into troubles with the discovery of new devices.  When the device is found Orion NPM is listing the Machine type as "Cisco".  It is not adding the model number like every other device on the network.  This is only on my 3800 series routers.  Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this or change each device.

The SysObjectID is referenced in a file named SWDiscovery.cfg. Orion uses this file to resolve machine type information. Unfortunately, this file is updated by SolarWinds only at major version releases - about 1-2 times per year. You might call support and ask if there is any way to manually edit it, but I doubt it will be possible.

I know this is an old thread, but I am trying to find the data source which maps the SNMP provided sysObjectID to the Machine Type value used by Orion.

I am not looking at changing this, but adding to it, as we have a customer with bespoke hardware they would like to have displayed as something other than Unknown in Orion

The reason the devices do not have more descriptive machine type details is because the Orion discovery database does not have the sysObjectIDs for those specific Cisco devices included.  You will want to email Support@SolarWinds.Net with the device model, IOS, and sysObjectID so they can forward the information to the development team.  You can pull the sysObjectID from OID: 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.2.  If you are using the SolarWinds MIB Browser to view the OID, you will want to go into the settings and add Raw Value to the view before viewing the MIB.
