Nightly Database Archive

I am aware that NPM runs a nightly job on the database but my DBA would like to know what exactly this nightly job does, for example is there any re-indexing done to reduce fragmentation or is it purely archiving off old data.

If someone could give me some details of what the nightly job does I would appreciate it, thanks

In short, it takes all the data that has aged out of the retention periods and rolls them up into the next larger retention period. Then it deletes the aged out data. In current releases it does a simple index defrag, but I would still encourage your dba to feel free to run whatever maintenance jobs they typically do because there is a lot they can do that isn't included. Just schedule those to run after the maintenance finishes (check the log for timestamps to get an idea how long you want to wait)
