Monitoring the DNS name of a server

We ran into an issue yesterday where a server lost its forward lookup "A" record but still had the reverse lookup defined. Caused major application issues. Is there a way to monitor the DNS name with APM? Couldn't find a WMI Object that would let us know if the DNS name is still valid.

So SolarWinds is an IP based monitoring solution and it considers DNS an application?

Seems to me that if it can reslove the name to IP automatically then it should alert if that name goes away.
