Can APM be used to restart a service at a set interval on a remote server?

I would like to be able to restart a Windows or SNMP process or service on a schedule and then use APM to monitor the up/down status of the service.

Should I use a local scheduled task on the target server to restart the service and then configure an APM application to monitor the service availability?

Or, can I use APM to run a script (or use the APMServieControl.exe) to restart the service and also monitor the availability?

What is possible? Thanks.

Update: I found out how to use the Advanced Schedule Options. I set the Task frequency to 4 hours and set the Duration to 23 hours and 59 minutes. The result is that that task repeats once a day and the task itself then consists of running the batch file every four hours. The method is quirky and could have been designed much better, but at least it is working.

I now see the SNMP service stop and restart, and I have APM monitoring the status of SNMP.exe. I also added an Event Log Monitor to look over the last 5 poll cycles for the event IDs that match the stop and start of SNMP when originating from the target server. Works like a charm.

I cant think of any alert condition that you could include to hit on a specific time, therefore I would suggest the scheduled task in Windows.

You could have APM restart the service but it would always be in a state of alarm and you couldn't define when it would recycle the service, only the interval. I.E. you could say every 12 hours for instance, but not at 3am every day. In the end I would recommend using the Windows Task Scheduler to restart the service and monitor the SNMP service using WMI or RPC so you'll always know the state of the SNMP service regardless of its state.

Thats where i was headed alterego, but as I look at the scheduling options for the scheduled task, it does not appear to allow me to schedule the task every 4 hours. AS you can see from the screenshots, I have the option of setting an interval, but there is something called Duration on the Advanced Schedule Options screen that adds time to the task as if it will run for some ridiculously long time period. The task only takes 1 or 2 seconds to run.

What the devil is this duration? How can I get Task Scheduler to just execute a simple batch file once every 4 hours?
