Install Orion NPM using separate SQL Server

I searched through the forum and didn't find this question so I apologize if I missed the answer.

I am installing Orion NPM product and want the installation to live on an IIS server and a separate set of SQL servers that are in a High-Availability Group. When I install Orion on the IIS server how do I prevent it from installing SQL? I have seen the documentation for moving the SQL Server, but can't find anything on how to prevent the Orion installer from installing SQL on the IIS server.

If this is your Primary Polling Engine (As in the core server) then the product does install SQL Compact Edition as part of the product regardless which option you choose. If you choose Express it will also install SQL Server Express Edition. If you choose Standard it will not, and you will have to select an existing SQL Server to point to for your database storage. However, the application server itself will still have SQL Compact Edition required.

If you are just looking to install an Additional Web Server, then as the comments above suggest you need to choose "Add Scalability Engine" and select the Web Server option

I choose this when running the installer on the IIS server and the installer installs SQL on this server and then asks what SQL server to connect to. This means that I will now have to go back and rely on the MS uninstall function to uninstall SQL and all it's related components on the IIS server. I'm looking for a way to have the Orion installer not install SQL on the IIS server at all.

Sounds you need an "additional web server" license if you are only needing a web console instalaltion.

kindly check hpstech's reply. that is the correct one. If you choose the standard install, it will not install the MSSQL Express as it is used for Eval versions and not recommended for production.

Thank you for this information, even though it's frustrating from a security standpoint that some version of SQL has to be installed on my Primary Polling Engine.

As an FYI for others, attached is a screenshot of the installed programs after I select the "Standard" install.
