Monitor website

I'd like to get notification if our website can't be reached externally. From reading other posts i set up HTTP Monitor, but the node shows down in 'Down Nodes' view on Orion website. Any insite to what I could be doing wrong? Need specific info, please ask.

Also...When adding the node, and I click the 'Test' the node shows Available.

Hello Dave,

You need to figure out why the node is showing Down before you will be able to use the HTTP Monitor successfully to monitor its status.

Some suggestions:

Ping the node from the APM server to see if it responds
Check the response time that is reported by the ping command. If it is abnormally high (compare it with the replies from other nodes), you may need to increase the ICMP Timeout Settings in APM.

To do this, click Settings. Then underneath Settings, click Polling Settings. Scroll down underneath the Network section and locate the ICMP Timeout field. Try increasing this value to see if that makes the node show as UP.

If you don't have any luck getting the node to appear as UP, you may want to submit a ticket at http://www.solarwinds.com/support/ticket/ so support can troubleshoot the issue.

Once the node is up, you can assign the HTTP Monitor to the node to check its status.

Here is what I see

I added Google.com, but my site looks the same in every aspect, except the address of course.

I noticed that you have added this as an External node. Have you tried adding it as an ICMP node, this will allow Orion to ping the node to tell if it's actually up or not.
