2019.4 Update - Linux Agent Question

Greetings THWACK -

I have been working on prepping to update my Solarwinds install to version 2019.4 and just want to make sure I have everything covered before I write up my change order.

1. With this update any Windows Agents would be pushed out an update to .Net 4.8, reboot, and update. I went through and checked any Windows Agents and flipped any of them running production applications to WMI and removed the Windows Agent. I do have a handful of nodes running the Windows Agent that I manually updated to .Net 4.8 so they hopefully will not reboot during the update process.

2. I have read that when you tell the agents not to auto update that they still update - is this still an issue?

3. I have 80 or so Linux Agents installed and want to find out if these will auto update and if any kind of issues will happen. The Linux boxes are running client and internal applications and if they reboot during the installation that would be very BAD. VERY VERY BAD. If these agents will update and reboot I will need to stop this or flip the Linux agents to SNMP.

Anything else I need to worry about? I want to get this installed before the next update but if it is going to cause some issues I can hold off but I would like to get 2019.4 installed because we will be standing up Patch Manager in the next month or so.

If you globally disable the agent auto-update, and then again on the individual Linux agent settings and turn off automatic updates there as well you should be OK.

Only other suggestion would be to lab it up, follow the above advice for a test Linux host in the lab, running the current version agent, and then go through the update process. If the agent remains on the old version, then you've proven your upgrade process will not effect your Linux boxes, and you can put that test on your RFC as a CYA action, should the worst happen and your live environment behaves differently

Right now my lab is just Patch Manager but soon to be other things so I can blow them up... I mean test correctly lol. I am going to get a list and see if the Linux people can give me any insight to the boxes so in case one does reboot I can figure out where to hide.

I have an issue where I have auto updates turned off on each agent and on the global setting is off. But when I clock on "Real-Time Process Explorer" it gets an error and then updates the agent, which subsequently also breaks. I have a ticket open.

I am on Orion Platform 2019.4 HF1 and SAM 2019.4 with no hotfixes. I'm pretty sure there is a newer hotfix available (at least for SAM), but I'm waiting for support to tell me that it should fix my problem before I attempt it.

And that is specifically for the linux agent on CentOS7. I haven't tested it on other versions of linux
