creating custom overview pages for use with TV displays/monitoring

I'm looking for some direction/help in customizing a useful login & customized page where I can have an always-logged in user account default to a custom home page that shows a current status screen of all (selected) devices (interfaces status - up/down).    Similar to the "Overview" screen, perhaps with an auto-updating (at regular/settable intervals) that display ongoing alerts or syslogs scrolling on the side or bottom, etc.

Can someone point me in the right direction or tell me if this is even possible?  How does one lay out the page for such a thing?

What you're looking for is a custom view.  If you log in as admin and click on the Admin tab, you'll go to the Views section.  Click on Manage Views.  That will take you to the manage views page.  Click the Add button to add a new view.  You'll be taken to the Add New View page.  Give the new view a name and select the type of view you want to create.  The different types are listed on the page.  Click the submit button and you'll be taken to the Customize (whatever you named your new view) page.  By default, it gives you two columns you can add Orion resources to (i.e. Down Nodes, Network Maps, Report Writer reports, Syslog messages, etc.)  You can have up to three columns to put your resources in. 

Once you have the view created, you'll need to assign it to either a Menu bar as a tab or (in your case) make it the home page for a specific user.  For example, I have a Customized Menu Bar that I created for my help desk users that only has two tabs on it, (Home and Maps.)  I created a user called HelpDesk.  When you edit your user, there is a section called Default Menu Bars and Views.  For my help desk user, I assigned the Help Desk Menu Bar as the default for that user and I assigned the Help Desk view to the Home Page View.  So, when the help desk user logs in, that user is taken directly to the custom Help Desk view I created. 

It can be a little confusing at first, but if you step through it a couple of times, it starts to make sense.  Hope this give you enough to get started.  Let me know if you have any questions.
